Two residents of Muche village in Homa Bay Town constituency are counting losses after a hyena attacked and killed their livestock.
The hyena killed 27 sheep and goats belonging to Dismas Mboya and Gordon Otieno on Tuesday morning.
Mboya lost 15 sheep, five goats while Otieno lost six sheep and a goat.
Speaking to journalists at Rodi Kopany market, the residents said the wild animal has frequently invaded their homes at night.
Mboya expressed concerns over the loss.
“The hyena attacks and kills livestock from one home to another in the village,” Mboya said.
Otieno argued that most residents live in fear following the frequent night attacks by the wild animal.
“Residents are forced return home early from daily businesses due to fear of possible attack by the hyena,” Otieno said.
They called for intervention from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) department.
