Iten cops rescue suspected motorbike thief from lynching

A suspected motorcycle

thief in Iten on Tuesday escaped death narrowly after he was attacked by boda-boda operators who wanted to lynch him.

The suspect, Simon Kiprop is admitted to

the Elgeyo Marakwet referral hospital after he was rescued by police officers.

He will be arraigned after treatment.

Kiprop was found with one stolen motorcycle.

At least five motorcycles have been stolen in Iten this year.

Keiyo North AP commandant Joseph Biwott said the motorbike had been stolen in the neighbouring Baringo County.

“The owner of the motorbike came and identified it. The suspect will be arraigned after he is discharged,” Biwott said.

The incident happened a day after Elgeyo Marakwet police commander Henry Kimani banned boda-boda operations in the county after 11 pm in a bid to end rising insecurity.

In December another rider was murdered and his motorbike stolen along Chesoi-Kapyego road in Marakwet East.
