COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing ex-KDF boss Julius Karangi to the NSSF board.

Atwoli had previously disputed the gazetted list of the NSSF board

members claiming the workers' union was sidelined.

In a statement on Wednesday, Atwoli said the appointment came at an opportune time when operations of the NSSF Board of Trustees are hampered due to the lack of a substantive chairman.

NSSF has in the recent past been rocked with power struggles over the control of the board.

Atwoli said COTU has a lot of confidence in the Retired Major General's wealth of experience.

"We fully commit to supporting Karangi in executing his duties as he serves Kenyans."

The Ex-KDF boss retired on May 4, 2015 after 42 years of service.

Before the current appointment, Karangi was chairman of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

He held the post since June 24, 2016 following the sacking of former police boss David Kimaiyo.

The Retired General has been assigned the role of a Non-Executive Chairperson.
