Prof John Odhiambo re-appointed Strathmore University VC

Prof John Odhiambo has been re-appointment the Strathmore University Vice Chancellor for another 5-year term.

The appointment by the university council took effect on May 1.

The Council subsequently appointed Dr Vincent Ogutu to the position of Vice-Chancellor Designate.

They said the post was created to enable the holder to strategically ensure a smooth transition in the roles and responsibilities of the office of Vice-Chancellor.

Odhiambo is a professor of Mathematics and Statistics.

He obtained his Bsc in mathematics and MSc and PhD in statistics from the University of Nairobi.

The don has exemplary industrial experience and has served as Consultant Statistician to the Population Council and Rockefeller Foundation’s Africa Regional Program.

Prof Odhiambo is a recipient of The Tutorial Fellowship award and Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship among other awards.

On the other hand, Ogutu, who is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Planning and Development, has previously been the Vice-Dean at the Business School and was the institution’s Deputy Principal between 1996 and 2006.

He holds a PhD in Organisational Management from Rutgers University, an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of London, and a BA in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

His research interests include Organisational Behaviour, Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship.

During the five year period, the Vice-Chancellor and the Designate will work closely on all matters pertaining to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
