Narok-Mai Mahiu road closed after speeding bus kills six cows

Hundreds of people travelling to and from Western Kenya were stranded in Narok County on Thursday night after angry residents blocked the Narok-Maai Mahiu road to protest the killing of six cows by a bus.

The 9 pm accident occurred

at Suswa trading centre,

60Kilometers from Narok town.

Demonstrators barricaded the road and hurled stones at motorists.

According to the locals, the bus belonging to Otange

company was heading to Nairobi from Kisii.

He said the bus driver rushed to the nearby Olasit police station where he reported the matter.

There was a traffic snarl up as vehicles from Nairobi stretched to Satellite area., several kilometres away.

"This is not the first time we have lost cattle in a similar accident, we

demand to be compensated for the dead animals.," one of the locals said.

In November 2012, a van belonging to Royal Media company killed 42 goats at the similar spot which led to the closure of the busy road by the angry locals.
