Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has unveiled a team of health officers who will treat elderly people suffering from diabetes and hypertension for free.

He has said the team will be sent to all the seven constituencies in the county.

Kang’ata on Saturday said he felt compelled to start the team after realising the majority of the aged are not aware they suffer from the health condition and therefore do not seek treatment.

The Senator said most elderly people are affected by the two lifestyle diseases due to neglect by their families.

He has organised numerous medical camps since he was elected Kiharu MP in 2013.

Kang’ata

said most of the patients attend the camps to treat symptoms of the diseases, without knowing that they are sick.

As a result, he noted, many suffer serious consequences after the diseases advance and start affecting their internal organs.

“This team will be on the ground for three months testing, treating and educating the elderly on the two diseases and how to avoid and manage them for free,” Kang’ata said.
