Six people were seriously injured after a bus overturned in Sachangwan on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Monday morning.

Two are in critical condition at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital, while several other victims are being treated for minor injuries at Molo subcounty hospital.

The bus was carrying 51 youths from St Patrick's Catholic Parish in Burnt forest who were heading to Subukia shrine in Nakuru.

Nancy Cheptoo, a passenger, said the bus overturned while trying to avoid a vehicle that was overtaking from the opposite direction.

Among the casualties is Father Francis Mbugua, who has minor injuries.

The 8.30am incident took place in the same area where more than 30 people were killed in a multiple crash involving 15 vehicles on Jamhuri Day.

On Saturday night, 10 people died in a a head on collision in Makutano, along the highway.

Infrastructure PS John Mosonik ordered police to increase road blocks in the area.

There are plans to construct a dual carriageway in Sachangwan to reduce fatal accidents.
