Githeri Man, Itumbi and Robert Alai to receive honours from Uhuru

Martin Kamotho, popularly known as "Githeri Man", is among people lined up to receive the Head of State Commendation, Civilian Division, during Kenya's 54th Jamuhuri Day celebrations on Tuesday.

The commendation will be awarded alongside other

Orders, decorations and medals by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kasarani Stadium.

Kamotho was spotted absentmindedly enjoying his maize and bean meal as he joined millions of Kenyans braving the cold, damp weather to cast their vote on August 8.

He

caused quite a buzz under the hashtag #GitheriMan.

The medals are normally given to individuals in recognition of outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.

The awards are made by the president upon the advice of a National Honours and Awards Committee in the president's office. Individuals are nominated for awards by district committees, government ministries, religious organisations, non-governmental organisations, individuals and others.

They are the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya,

Uhodari Medal, The Order of the Burning Spear, The Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya, The Distinguished Conduct Order, The Distinguished Service Medal and The Silver Star of Kenya.

The Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya is the highest honour in Kenya.

Others lined up for the commendation

include Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung'u, musicians Ben Githae, Roy Smith Mwatia alias Rufftone and the late Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery's widow Hellen.

Director of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi, Journalist

Jackie Maribe and blogger Robert Alai are also lined up to receive the honours.

Other notable names among the 59 people to receive the award include

boxer Fatuma Zarika and Honourable Farah Mohammed Manzoor.
