County governments are set to receive cash following the signing of the law permitting the National Treasury to disburse the funds.

President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law the the County Allocation of Revenue Amendment Bill at State House, Nairobi,

on Wednesday.

The new Act of Parliament stipulates conditional allocations to county governments from loans and grants.

It aligns the County Allocation of Revenue Act, 2017 to the provisions of Division of Revenue Act, 2017.

Uhuru said:

"The national government is committed to ensuring devolution succeeds and will continue to facilitate county governments to deliver on their mandate."

Deputy President William Ruto, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, his senate counterpart Kenneth Lusaka, Majority Leader Aden Duale and the Senate's Kipchumba Murkomen were present.

The signing came on the backdrop of complaints by governors about inability to operate due to lack of money.

Most counties had not received money months to the August 8 general election, resulting in delayed salaries and payments to workers and suppliers.
