The formal opening of the embassy took place on November 8 in Nairobi.

The event was presided over by Ireland's Foreign Affairs minister Simon Coveney and his Kenyan counterpart Amina Mohamed.

The Irish government sought to expand it's global footprint abroad and increase staff members working in its European embassies.

In attendance were Irish Ambassador Dr Vincent O'neil's wife Brona Mhuiri, US Ambassador Robert Godec, EU Ambassador Stefano Dejak, deputy Pope's representative messenger Marco Ganci and athletics champion David Rudisha.
