Assumption office set for first meeting on Uhuru's inauguration

Plans are underway for President Uhuru Kenyatta's swearing-in next Tuesday following Supreme Court's verdict.

In a statement on Monday, the Assumption of the Office of President Committee said it will hold its first meeting at 3pm in Nairobi's Kasarani stadium.

The president-elect assumes office by taking and subscribing to the oath or affirmation of allegiance, and the oath or affirmation for the execution of the functions of office, as prescribed in the Third Schedule.

Parliament shall, by legislation, provide for the procedure and ceremony for the inauguration.

Chief Justice David Maraga said the Supreme Court upheld Uhuru's re-election in the re-run as two key petitions against the victory lacked merit.

The cases were by former Kilome MP Harun Mau, International Commission of Jurists Kenya chapter chairman Njonjo Mue and MUHURI boss Khelef Khalifa.

NASA released a statement later, leader Raila Odinga saying the ruling does not change their view of the Jubilee government as illegitimate.
