A seven-year-old boy died while receiving treatment at a hospital hours after being rescued from a well in Kangundo, Machakos county on Thursday.
Area OCPD Samuel Anampiu said the boy was playing with his friends at their home in Uvalini village when he accidentally fell into the open well.
He said the boy was rescued alive by a KCSE candidate from Holy Spirit High School who heard the boy screaming inside the well.
He was rushed to the Kangundo Level Four Hospital by residents.
The police boss said the body was taken to the hospital's mortuary.
Anampiu asked parents to be more watchful of children during the long holidays.
He also asked residents to seal off boreholes and wells to prevent such accidents.
