Vihiga United goalkeeper Franklin Mwenda might join Hong Kong Premier League side Wofoo Tai-Po if he succeeds in the trials with the club.
Mwenda, the second choice for the Super League side United, will be traveling this Saturday to Hong Kong for trials with the club.
Tai-Po are currently second in the Boc Life Hong Kong Premier League with 11 points, behind leaders Kitchen FC, who have 13 points. Mwenda said Tai-Po’s team manager Lee Ching Kin was organising for his travel to Hong Kong.
He added that the team’s scouts have been following his performance in the lower tier before inviting him for the trials. He added that he was excited to have been identified by the team, adding that he will do his best to secure a chance in the team. “Any player in Africa dreams of joining professional rank...I’ll work hard to make the dream come true,” said Mwenda.
He added that although Hong Kong League is not among the highly ranked football competitions, he was happy that Tai-Po club has seen him adding that he will not disappoint. Mwenda thanked his coach Edward Manoah and team mates for the support they gave him. Manoah said he was aware of Mwenda’s move and wished him well.
“Any coach in the world would want to see his player play professional football at any level and I am happy for Mwenda. I wish him well in the trials,” said Manoah.
Mwenda had been relegated to number two following the acquisition of former AFC Leopards keeper Barnabas Tiema in the second leg.
