IEBC officials in Siaya have downed their tools citing insecurity, just hours to

Thursday's repeat presidential election.

County returning officer Ruth Kulundu said officials in five constituencies will not conduct the election.

"As per now I can say the election will only be conducted in Alego Usonga sub-county where I have not received withdrawal communication from clerks," she said on Wednesday.

She noted officials in Gem, Rarieda, Ugenya, Bondo and Ugunja withdrew after they and their family members were threatened.

"Today, angry residents in Ugenya almost lynched my returning officer before he was rescued by police officers," Kulundu added.

"We had to ferry election materials at night as no transporter was willing to offer us their vehicles. We are only waiting to transport the seals."

But Kulundu said that despite the volatility, IEBC has managed to transport election materials to all sub-county tallying centres.

She said they will have three police officers at each poling station and 20 others at the tallying centre.

In Migori county, IEBC was unable to deliver election materials as protesters barricaded roads with stones and bonfires.

The Supreme Court was unable to hear a case to stop tomorrow's election as quorum was not met.
