A team of professionals led by ex-Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba want the DPP to investigate and prosecute NASA governors over threats to stop Thursday's presidential election.

Those they want probed are governors Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Okoth Obado (Migori), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya) and Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay).

The team, working under the Council of Kenya Professionals, wants the prosecutor to move with speed so that Kenyans can peacefully hold the fresh presidential poll.

"There is an urgent need to ensure the protection of the right of Kenyans to vote freely as enshrined in Article 38 of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 3 of the Elections Act (2016)," Ababu said.

He said they have met with the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko and petitioned him to investigate the matter.

The former MP said the governors should be questioned for asking IEBC to "stop wasting time training election officials to preside over the repeat presidential poll".

They said the same governors, being National Super Alliance (NASA) members, have called for mass action on October 26.

"We want the DPP's office to use the statements made on October 18, 2017."

"While we respect the choice of Kenyans who decide not to participate in the elections and or vote, the statements by the governors pose a serious threat to the right of other Kenyans to vote, and to peace, stability and public order," Ababu said.
