Hillcrest headteacher Gabrielle Maina shot dead in Karen

Hillcrest school headteacher Gabrielle Maina has been shot dead.

Gabrielle, an

Australian was shot on Thursday in Karen during a robbery incident.

She

was

walking on Warai Road when the gang riding on a motorbike stopped in front of her.

Police said one of the gunmen demanded that she

surrenders a mobile phone she had.

But the middle-aged woman is said to have resisted the orders prompting the gunmen to shoot her once.

The gang then grabbed the mobile phone and escaped.

According to the West Australian media,

Maina was shot dead

after dropping her son at a friend’s house.

No arrest has been made so far.

She has been in Kenya since September 2015 with her Facebook page saying she is from Armidale.

The school has expressed its condolences to Gabrielle’s family.
