The demonstrations in Laare that led to the cancellation of Raila Odinga's Tuesday rally were organised by a former NASA point man in Meru Mike Mutembei.

Mutembei who recently defected to Jubilee said he planned the demos.

Jubilee supporters lit fires, blocked the entrance to the stadium and

set a podium on fire after it was prepared for Opposition leaders

“Raila had ferried about 100 youth to counter our demos. We were waiting for Raila to tell him that we do not want him to plunge the country into chaos. He should not come here to tell us to join anti-IEBC demonstrations,” Mutembei said.

Speaking at Meru slopes hotel on Wednesday, Mutembei

said Raila must respect President Uhuru Kenyatta if he wants to step in Meru.

“If he wants to come to Meru peacefully let him come to campaign and not to polarise the people to join the anti-IEBC demos,” Mutembei said.

NASA cancelled its rally after its supporters clashed with Jubilees.

The NASA leaders cancelled their flight to Meru after news on the chaos.

Raila accused the area OCPD, identified only as a Mr Kimani of orchestrating the chaos with area OCS - a Mr Wamae.

In a press briefing at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, he said: "This is what we call state-sponsored thuggery."

Mudavadi said: "We have campaigned in Meru for decades and we know the people well. We know the level of support among residents.

But Mutembei said there was no police involved.
