The family of a six-year-old nursery school boy killed by stray dogs in Uasin Gishu on Monday has called for justice.

Brian Kibet, a learner at Kapchesimbol ECDE School, was mauled by at least 10 stray dogs while walking to school on the border with Elgeyo Marakwet county.

The family, led by his uncle Fredrick Kiptum, has urged authorities to take action on the animals' owners.

He said on Tuesday that the people are known and asked security agencies to have them arrested and prosecuted.

Noting "we are really saddened as a family and only want justice for our little boy", the uncle asked the owners to take responsibility.

"We are still asking many questions about what happened," he said, adding Kibet's father Robert and his wife are still undergoing counselling.

Kiptum said the boy was alone because such attacks have never taken place in the area.

He accused the authorities of failing to control the number of stray dogs roaming villages in the area.

The boy was rescued by resident Ben Kipchumba who rushed him to Iten County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kipchumba said he called locals to help chase the dogs and rescue the pupil during the attack at

Kapsimbol village incident.

He took him to hospital on a borrowed motorcycle.

Keiyo North Veterinary officer Roselyne Bundotich said on Tuesday that they have been directed to poison the dogs to avert more deaths.

"We have resolved to poison them. The drugs have already been availed."

But she said on Monday that residents have not reported a rising number of strays.
