A doctor has been detained seven more days over the murder of a KRA lawyer.

The medic was charged alongside former Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti in a rape and assault case.

In the rape case, the medic allegedly performed an involuntary HIV/AIDS test on the survivor.

A Nairobi court ordered on Tuesday that Mwangi Muchiri remain in police custody pending completion of investigations before he can apply for bail.

It is alleged he murdered Jared Ratemo on July 11, at around 7.50 pm, at Fig Tree Medical Centre in Ngara, Nairobi county.

The 46-year-old doctor is accused of killing the lawyer at his clinic where he was undergoing treatment.

A postmortem on the lawyer's body revealed he had been tortured, injected with an unknown substance and strangled to death.

It is alleged that he further suffered several injuries to his head, face and other parts of the body, inflicted by a blunt object.

The autopsy report also indicated that the lawyer's genitals were crushed.

The Law Society of Kenya linked the murder to a tax evasion investigation.

Ratemo's body was found dumped along Mombasa Road on July 12.

The lawyer was a supervisor at the Customs and Border Control Department in charge of the Consolbase Freight Services in Mombasa.

According to his family, he went missing after meeting some people over a work-related issue.
