NASA should end anti-IEBC demos as they are leading to massive destruction of property and deaths, the

National Council of NGOs has said.

In a statement on Tuesday, chairman Stephen Cheboi said stakeholders should hold talks to end the standoff featuring President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party and NASA's Raila Odinga.

The repeat presidential election has been set for October 26 but Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka have withdrawn and demanded major reforms in order to participate.

Several politicians and religious leaders have asked them to dialogue but they have refused to consider this.

The chairman said:

"We urge key leaders and parties to come to the table and dialogue on the issues at hand.

"We laud NASA for postponing their planned demonstration

today

but further call on them to rethink the whole idea of demonstrations and find alternative ways of having their grievances addressed."

Cheboi also

emphasised the need for the election to take place as scheduled by IEBC to prevent a

constitutional crisis

NASA leaders postponed their demonstrations to

attend to supporters hurt during Monday's mass action.

"The nationwide protests will resume on October 18. The coalition directs all its supporters to stay off the streets tomorrow," said

Raila's spokesman Dennis Onyango.

Several MPs were injured and their car windows smashed after riot officers shot at them in the Nairobi central business district.

During protests in Kondele, Kisumu county, on Monday, a student who went home to collect Sh10,000 fees was killed.

Witnesses claimed police slit his throat and took out the bullet.
