Kenya’s Anne Obure and Clare Mungai will be flying the country’s flag in the Singapore Masters swimming Championships planned for October 29.
Obure, 33, will be making her debut in the event and will feature in three events thus 50m freestyle, 50m breast stroke and 100m breast stroke.
Mungai, on the other hand, will feature in 50m back stroke and breast stroke (50 and 100m).
Mungai, 35, is fresh from featuring in another masters event in New Zealand last April, where she posted personal best times in all her events. She said her target this time round will be to improve on her events. “In New Zealand, I also took part in the 50m butterfly but I will not compete in the event this time round,” she said.
Obure qualified for the event by virtue of her good time and hopes to win some of her categories. Besides, she said she will be hoping to gather enough experience and exposure during the event as she seeks to form a masters team back at home. “It’s unfortunate that Nairobi Amateur Swimming Association (NASA) no longer cover masters events in their calendar and this is proving hard for those of us who have a passion for swimming,’ she noted.
Obure said they are currently operating under ‘Ogelea Swimming Club’
and would like to make it big after their tour of Singapore. She said they will have to cater for their own travel and accommodation but they are hoping to get sponsors in future events. The two will depart on October 25th via Hong Kong in a bid to have some days to acclimatize.
