Anti-IEBC protests in Narok town failed to take place after some Opposition leaders defected to Jubilee party.

ODM chair Charles Nampaso said they want to first elect new office bearers, while Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta termed the defected leaders traitors.

He said the Maasai community will not accept defectors for leadership posts.

The MP also accused the government of using security officers to scare residents from taking part in protests.

"The police in full anti-riot gear have been going around the town blocking main areas as a way to scare the locals who were planning to come for the peaceful demonstrations," the MP said.

He said during the last protests, police used excessive force to disperse demonstrators and arrested some of them.

"When the locals saw the presence of many police officers, they decided to keep off for the fear of being arrested and arraigned as witnessed in the recent demonstrations," he added.

Kenta said it is sad that Kenyans wasted their time an resources in the nullified presidential election and they will not allow current IEBC officials to conduct the October 26 repeat polls.

"We are not going to participate in the sham elections until the officials in the IEBC are removed for having perpetuated injustices to Kenyans in the August 8 polls," the legislator said.

Senator Ledama ole Kina said they want to effectively plan for future demonstrations.

He said they want to show critics that they can organise their activities without causing chaos.

Anti-IEBC protests will intensify this week as the Opposition called for demos on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

In Nairobi, three protesters were run over, while one was shot by police.
