Disaster unit appeal for fire engines to fight Gikomba inferno

The National Disaster Management Unit

(NDMU) has appealed to companies with fire engines and water boosters to avail their equipment to help in containing the huge inferno at Gikomba market.

The fire that started at 5 am has engulfed

a big part of the market, burning

property worth millions of shillings.

Efforts to contain the huge fire are ongoing.

Mwachi Pius Masai EMT and Deputy Director and Communication Officer NDMU said several

Nairobi County and NYS Engines are on site but more are needed.

The market has a history of fires which have cost traders losses amounting to millions of shillings.
