Trans Nzoia Senator Micheal Mbito has filed a 7,000-page response at the Kitale law courts challenging the petition filed by former Senator Henry Ndiema. Ndiema is seeking the nullification of Mbito’s election over ‘massive irregularities’.
Mbito filed the response on Monday through his advocate Benson Muema of Gitonga and Mureithi Company Advocates in Kitale town.
Mbito, of Jubilee Party, got 71, 471 votes against Ndiema’s 70,846.
The petition filed by Ndiema, however, drew criticism from a section of Sabaot leaders who urged for him to withdraw it, while others have called for the Supreme Council of Elders to unite the two. Former Kitale mayor Pius Kauka said the Sabaot do not recognise the leadership of Ndiema. He urged Ndiema to withdraw the petition.
Addressing the media on Thursday last week, Kauka said Ndiema’s move would make the community lose the seat if a fresh election is held.
“Both Ole Ndiema and Mbito come from the Sabaot community. We want to retain the seat so let Ole Ndiema be content,” he said.
