The October 26 Presidential repeat election is an opportunity for the IEBC to redeem its image and it should ensure a free and fair election, a Trade Unions Congress of Kenya official has said.

Secretary General Wilson Sossion on Saturday said the union welcomes the new date, but the IEBC should ensure the will of Kenyans succeeds.

The illegalities and irregularities that marred the August 8 election should not be repeated. The commission’s integrity faces a test, he said.

Despite the endless criticism levelled at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission after the August election, it should try to disprove it and conduct a poll to the desire of all Kenyans, Sossion said.

He spoke during a farewell for Imarisha Teachers’ Sacco outgoing chief executive officer Joseph Sigei.

“It is not about who votes for whom, but for [Chairman Wafula] Chebukati and his team to deliver a poll free of irregularities,” Sossion said.
