Kenya Wildlife Service has convened a meeting to recovery the body of a Chinese tourist who died after reaching the highest point of Mt Kenya.

The tourist died at 3pm

on Sunday

while descending from the Batian point (5,199 metres,

17,057 ft).

He was in the company of five people when he slipped and landed on a cliff 60m down, said communications officer Ngugi Gecaga.

“We usually advise out amateur climbers to have ropes but the tourist said he did not need one because he was experienced. He had even climbed Mt Everest," he told The Star on phone on Monday.

Everest, the highest mountain in the world, is of 8,848 m.

Gecaga said they will form a team that will search for the body.

"It will take between 24 – 72 hours to get to the body because of the weather conditions. There is a lot of snow up there but we are going to try our best to get it in good time."
