Deputy President William Ruto has mocked Opposition leader Raila Odinga over the promise to legalise chang'aa 'in his journey to Canaan'.

The DP on Wednesday told residents of Makutano, Kirinyaga county that Raila is wrong in his relation of the biblical Canaan and the alcoholic brew.

"Huyu mtu ni Joshua bandia na hiyo Canaan yake ni fake sababu bibilia inasema huko ni nchi ya maziwa na asali na huyu anatuambia Canaan yake ni ya kukunywa chang'aa."

(This guy is the fake Joshua and his Canaan is also fake because the Bible says that Canaan is the land of milk and honey yet he is telling Kenyans that his Canaan has Chang'aa)

Raila, in his campaigns, compares himself to biblical Joshua adding that he will deliver Kenyans to a 'Canaan' where there will be no discrimination.

"If you vote for Jubilee you will remain in Egypt. But if you vote for Nasa, we will take you to Canaan."

During his campaign tour of Western, the ODM leader said his administration will come up with ways of regulating the local brew industry.

He said even Uganda and Tanzania have legalised the drink.

"There is nothing wrong with Kenya expanding its business as long as the brews are regulated."

The Nasa flag bearer accused Ruto of being so insensitive to the needs of ordinary Kenyans.

"Uganda legalised changaa and set up a brewery which processes Waragi. They take the chang'aa from women who brew it and refine it," Raila said.
