Tension is high in

Samburu county after ten people were killed in separate incidents.

Eight people were reportedly killed on Sunday morning and an unknown number of livestock stolen at Koom area along the border of Samburu and Isiolo counties by armed bandits.

Two other people were killed in Baragoi, after armed bandits engaged herders in the area.

Samburu county commander Alfred Agengo confirmed the attack.

"The

police in Isiolo County have accurate information about the attack in Koom. We will give you more information once we arrive

at the scene," Agengo told the Star on phone.

Samburu county governor Moses Lenolkulal termed the incident as unfortunate and urged areas residents to be calm.

“We are saddened by the reports from Koom that there was an attack this morning by armed bandits suspected to be from Merti,” said Lenokulal.

Lenolkulal added that drought is the root cause of such incidents as pastoralists are moving around in search of grass and water.

"There are internal wrangles in Baragoi due to the prolonged drought, it is within the communities living in Baragoi’’, he said.

Lenolkulal also urged relevant authorities to give a report on the number of livestock that were stolen by the bandits.
