KPA board has appointed Catherine Mturi-Wairi as the authority's Managing Director to replace Gichiri Ndua who was sacked in February.
In a statement on Tuesday, Kenya Ports Authority board of directors Chairman Marsden Madoka said Wairi who has been serving as the KPA acting MD since February is best suited for the job.
“Mrs Mturi-Wairi is not only qualified, but also has a wealth of experience in the industry as a long-serving employee of KPA.
She is the best steward to champion the ongoing restructuring of KPA to enhance robustness, efficiency and a higher degree of accountability,” he said.
Wairi scored 72.5 percent during interviews, she was followed by Joseph Atonga at 68.75 percent while Stanley Ndege Chai came third with 58.2 percent.
Wairi holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Finance and Accounting from United States University, Nairobi and a Master of Business Administration from the same institution.
She is a certified Public Accountant of Kenya – CPA (K) and certified Public Secretary of Kenya – CPS(K). In addition to this, she is also a certified SAP Consultant, Finance.
She has worked at KPA for the last 23 years, having joined as a junior accountant I 1993.
She previously worked as Manager for Finance as well as manager for Financial Accounting and Manager for Management Accounting.
