Fred Matiang'i has announced the dissolution of the Knec board and said CEO Joseph Kivilu will record a statement with police on exam irregularities.
The Education CS
appointed former UoN vice-chancellor George Magoha the new chairman of the Kenya National Examination council board.
Matiang'i
further released a list of eight others also expected to record statements over the cheating in the 2015 national exams.
The Education ministry
of 5,101 students and reported a 70 per cent rise in the number of cases of irregularities.
2,975 cases of cheating were recorded in 2014.
The eight people the Cabinet Secretary named during a press conference at Jogoo House in Nairobi on Thursday are:
- Ambia Noor (senior deputy secretary)
- Maundu Mantenzawa (deputy secretary - security)
- Thomas McKenzie (principal examinations secretary)
- Sarah Majani (senior deputy secretary- reprographics)
- Boby Mwai (senior deputy secretary)
- Geoffrey Gitogo (senior deputy secretary -in charge of ICT)
- Michael Ndua (principal supply chain management
- Richard Mwangangi (deputy secretary)
While announcing the exam results, Matiang'i acknowledged the "unprecedented rise of exam irregularities" and apologised to the public.
He said Nairobi, Makueni and Meru counties were the most affected of the 47 counties.
Matiang'i said the
ministry will deal with candidates who cheated individually, through its secretariat.
