FORMER First Lady Lucy Kibaki is suffering from complications related to aging, according to family spokesman Ngari Gituku.
He refused to give details of her ailment
but said it is related to atrophy, a condition of partial or complete wasting away of a part of the body due to degeneration of cells.
This mainly comes with old age. Other sources told the Star Lucy has had heart complications and breathing problems.
But Gituku said “all these are in idle minds”.
“Where a public figure is concerned, there is a tendency to dramatise situations. These are just speculations. Mama Lucy is okay,” he said.
Lucy yesterday spent her third day in Nairobi Hospital. Gituku said she is responding to medication “extremely” well.
Lucy is, however, expected to spend more days in hospital. Independent sources told the Star she is being attended to by a private family physician and a nurse in a highly guarded private room.
The source said this is intended to keep the matter under guard. Lucy has since been removed from the intensive care unit section after “a range of tests”.
Gituku said former President Mwai Kibaki visited her earlier in the afternoon, and doctors are “extremely happy” about her progress.
