Former Kandara MP George Mwicigi has passed away at the age of 83, after battling a heart condition for 12 years.

His wife, Murang'a county nominated MCA Rebecca Mwicigi, said he died at the Aga Khan hospital on Friday morning, where he had been admitted for two weeks.

"My husband had an accident 12 years ago and it left him with heart complications. We have been seeking treatment at local and foreign hospitals, but today the heart failed while he was being treated," Rebecca said.

Mwicigi served as Kandara MP for 15 years, between 1969-1979 and 1983-1989.

He also served as Assistant minister for Agriculture during the Moi era and is credited for water in Kandara constituency among other achievements.
