You must wear photo ID badges, board tells doctors

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board yesterday directed all doctors to wear an identification badge bearing their names, photos, registration numbers and speciality while attending to patients.

"This will assist the members of public verify whether the doctor is qualified and licensed by the board to practise," the board chief executive officer Daniel Yumbya said.

He said the board will carry out countrywide inspections to ensure all doctors and health facilities are duly licensed to practise and operate.

In a newspaper advert, Yumbya warned that doctors and institutions operating without licences will face the law.

The board also published names of registered doctors, health facilities and accredited training and internships institutions on its website.

It is tasked with regulation of the practice of medicine and dentistry to ensure provision of quality, safe and ethical healthcare in the country.

The board has the mandate to retain and license qualified medical practitioners and health facilities, both public and private.

It enforces professionalism and ethical practices among medics and institutions and exercises disciplinary measures against errant members.
