Mega City mall in Kisumu’s CBD is expanding to include two high-rise towers, offices, apartments, retail space and entertainment.

“The mall being the heartbeat of the lakeside city will offer a wide variety of services, mainly retail, information and communication” a statement by project manager Hatibu Gonna said.

The developer of the new Mega Plaza is Mega Properties Franchise.

The aim is to make Kisumu “Kenya’s Dubai” to change the face of the CBD, Gonna said.

The plaza will have a 16-floor tower and a 17-floor tower, plus banks, insurance providers, health and beauty facilities.

“This will keep up with the growing demand for retail, “Gonna said.

The new building is expected to encompass four distinct blocks and a middle foyer.

The management said this will ensure additional parking on the first, second and third floors, for 400 cars.

The new facility will provide quick access to stores, cafes, restaurants, coffee bars and entertainment.

“Kisumu is strategically placed in the East African region and we believe these investments will open the town to more investors,” Gonna said.

Currently Kisumu has several malls — West End, United, Tufform and Mega City — which is being expanded into Mega Plaza.

Since the 2007-08 post-election violence, Kisumu has witnessed tremendous growth in infrastructure.
