MENYINKWA Zone FC came from behind to edge Equity Zone 3-2 to lift the James Ongwae Kisii town Boda Boda football tournament. Godfrey Okwena and Cosmas Aroni scored first for in the 23rd and 36th minute respectively to give Equity a 2-0 lead at the interval.
In the second half, a rejuvenated Menyinkwa scored three goals through Shadrack Dida to stun Equity during the match played at Gusii Stadium and watched by the sponsor and Kisii Governor James Ongwae. In the semis, Menyinkwa defeated Hema Zone 3-2 while Equity hit St June’s 1-0.
Winners took home a Honda motorbike and Sh40,000, while the runners up were awarded Sh40,000 and a trophy. The 3rd and 4th placed teams pocketed Sh20,000 and Sh15,000 respectively. A total of 32 teams participated in the tournament, which has been running for the last two months.
As part of empowering the Boba Boda Sacco, which Governor Ongwae initiated in February 2015, he donated a motorbike to enable them run their office errands with ease. Ongwae said the tournament will run annually and will be extended to the entire county. He asked them to form one team to take part in the provincial league.
