The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has been enjoined in a case in which two NGOs are challenging Parliament’s failure to enact the two-thirds gender rule.
KNCHR will come in as the third petitioner in the case. Justice Joseph Onguto directed CREAW and the others to serve the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Speaker of Senate and the Attorney General before September 14, when the case will be mentioned.
The Centre for Rights Education and Awareness and Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust filed the case in court following Parliament’s failure to enact a mechanism to implement the not more than two-thirds gender principle at the national level.
Through lawyer Dismas Wambola, CREAW and CAAT want Parliament compelled to implement the gender rule.
