EACC boss Kinisu regrets 'lying' about Esaki resignation date

EACC chairman Philip Kinisu has said he regrets failing to declare a conflict of interest during his appointment as head of the anti-graft agency.

This is following the discrepancies in information on the timing for his resignation from a family firm, whose involvement with NYS has been under .

Kinisu expressed the regrets on Thursday when he .

The anti-corruption boss had been summoned by the Kenya Revenue Authority for questioning over dealings with NYS.

Kinisu had initially misled the committee that he resigned as director of Esaki Limited in 2008, yet he resigned in April 2016.

This was despite

EACC commissioners resolving that each suspect in the Sh791million scandal disclose any conflict of interest in the fight against graft upon assuming office.

"I think it was right to declare that Esaki traded in NYS businesses but it is important to note that this is a

calculated move to hound me from office by the commissioners," he said.

Kinisu was

responding to a petition seeking his removal from office over the firm's involvement in the NYS saga.

Committee chair Samuel Chepkonga said his failure puts his integrity in question.

"Holding part of such information from the relevant authorities or committee might be the parting point with this committee," Chepkonga stated.
