Parents and children are likely to commit suicide if Treasury starve the Constituency Development Fund account of cash, Ganze MP Peter Shehe has claimed.

Shehe said lack of CDF money will deny school fees to hundreds of students from the country’s poorest constituency.

"I am now convinced that this cash drought will drive both parents and children to suicide. They have no other option but the CDF bursary," the MP said.

The accounts, which had been frozen in 2015 following corruption charges facing Shehe and some CDF officials, were unfrozen this year. The case is still pending case at the high court in Malindi.

"Despite Treasury unfreezing the accounts, there is no money. We hope money will be channeled so that we address mostly the pressing needs,” he said.

Shehe was speaking at Juhudi Primary School on Sunday, where he said hundreds of parents were flocking his home on daily basis following the release of KCPE results last month seeking assistance.

"I receive hundreds of bright but needy cases, especially those seeking Form One admission yet there is no money in the CDF accounts which is a major challenge to us," he said.

The MP was accompanied by nominated senator Mvita Kisasa in the visit to inspect a Swiss-funded five-classroom project at the school.
