ELEPHANTS IN KENYA

In 1979, Kenya had 167,000, according to the Kenya Wildlife Service. Today, there are between 30,000 and 38,000 elephants now living in Kenya. The country lost 164 elephants and 35 rhino to poachers last year. In 2013, 302 elephants and 59 rhino were killed by poachers, down from 384 elephants and 30 rhinos in 2012.
