Wenger should use the match against Lyon to decide on whether he needs top notch striker

Arsenal Vs Lyon, Today 6:20pm,

My Prediction: Gunners... 3 Lyon....1

Arsenal is looking good and just like at the start of any season, I am feeling confident. I watched some the games that Arsenal played in Singapore last week, and while I still feel we are missing a top notch striker, the situation isn’t tragic just yet. This weekend’s opposition in the Emirates Cup should clarify to the fans and manager Arsene Wenger, whether the Gunners need to invest in a striker or not. Lyon are not a small team by any means. They finished second in the French Ligue 1 last season and boast players like Alexandre Lacazette who Wenger was reported to be chasing earlier in the transfer window. Let’s just hope that the striker doesn’t use this game to show Wenger that he should have signed him.

Actually, since it’s a pre season fixture, perhaps he should while we still have time to sign him. The worrying thing though is that Man United is rumoured to be chasing him too and that could complicate financial matters for Arsenal. I’m expecting an exciting tough fixtures and even though I want Arsenal to win the Emirates Cup; Wenger coming up with a solid team for the 2015/16 season is more important to me. My prediction today is very emotional.

Gor Mahia Vs Telecom (Djibouti) Sunday 2pm

My Prediction: K’Ogalo...4 Telecom....0

This Cecafa tie should be an easy one for Gor Mahia who are on fire. After convincing wins over Yanga and KMKM of Zanzibar, this should be a piece of cake. I note here that I am writing this on Friday but before Gor Mahia plays Khartoum this afternoon, which is why I am not referring to that game. Djibouti club usually turn up for these tournaments because they need to feel part of the larger East African community; which is fine. It allows for all other teams who face them to count the points in the bag as soon as you know you’re drawn with them. Gor Mahia are already in the next round but they will still need a confidence boost and will give them all here. I won’t even dwell on the details here as Coach Frank Nuttall can even rest wonder-boy Michael Olunga and still get goals from Ali Abondo and Medde Kagere.

Sony Vs Leopards, Sunday 3pm,

My Prediction: Sony....0 Ingwe...2

Awendo Green Stadium

This should be an easy league match for AFC Leopards given that Ingwe are on another role right now. They do not appear to be missing any of the big names that left during the June transfer window; and they have the three wins out of three since the second half of the season started, to attest to that. Last week it was City Stars who left Nyayo Stadium pointless as Ingwe climbed up the standings to third on the log.

Meanwhile, you have to go back nearly eight games; to April, to find the last match that Sony Sugar won. And that win was one of four since the season started. Things have been so bad at Sony that they sent their Coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno packing and are still in the recruiting process. That can’t be good for the club who are facing a resurging Ingwe. This is a no brainer; three points for my shemejis!
