THREE Nyeri government officials were charged yesterday with Sh3.7 million corruption. Executive secretaries John Maina (Lands) and Martin Wamwea (Finance) and chief of staff Simon Wachira were accused of abuse of office and breaking procurement regulations.

The three appeared before Nyeri chief magistrate John Oyiengo.

Maina was charged with irregularly awarding a contract last August 12.

Wamwea allegedly authorised payments of more than Sh 3.7 million to Pleng Kenya without supporting documents last December 20.

Wachira allegedly improperly helped Pleng Kenya by approving payment of Sh3.7 million to the company.

The three denied the charges and were released on Sh1 million bond.

Oyiengo set the hearing for August 11.
