38 counties sign up for medical equipment, nine now remain

Thirty-eight counties have signed up for the Sh38 billion medical equipment provided by the national government.

Nine others are yet to sign up for the equipment to be distributed to 98 referral hospitals in the counties.

Senate majority leader Kithure Kindiki said the equipment will alleviate the suffering of patients, especially in rural areas.

He said tendering arguments for the project are unnecessary.

“The equipment are needed in hospitals like yesterday and counties should not wait to sign the MoUs,” Kindiki said.

Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, he said the remaining counties should sign up for the equipment.

“Those with questions can ask later but for now, let them accept the equipment so patients can stop spending a lot of money and travelling long distances to get specialised medical care,” Kindiki said.

He asked counties to spend their funds well.

“Counties will now get extra money and its important that they spend it well to ensure that the public benefits from devolution,” Kindiki said.

All North Rift governors said they have signed up for the equipment.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago the equipment are a priority then other issues can follow.

Cleophas Lagat of Nandi said, "we support anything that can be done to ensure citizens access quality services.”
