Aishwariya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor have wowed us on the Cannes red carpet before. In fact this was Ash’s 14th trip to Cannes but Katrina Kaif’s first one ever. She even got herself on Twitter just for the social media presence at Cannes with L’Oreal. The three looks that I got to see of hers were good. I’m not really a member the fashion police but I do have an opinion on outfits.
On the first day, Katrina stunned with a simple asymmetrical black and white dress with her midriff showing. For me, it was her footwear that crowned the outfit. She wore a gorgeous pair of Manolo Blahniks that completed her look.
For the red carpet, Katrina wore a lace gown designed by Oscar De La Renta and honestly speaking, I did expect something more smashing than that. It was a lovely gown but I wanted to see something more exciting on Katrina. Her red hair (which has been dyed for an upcoming look in a film) didn’t do much for her with this gown.
Just when I thought she wouldn’t wow with her outfits, Katrina proves everyone wrong with a gorgeous red Elie Saab brocade dress, with red lips and hair to boot. She looked absolutely stunning in my favourite colour. I do look forward to seeing more of Katrina on the Cannes red carpet.
Eva and Ash don’t conform:
Thierry Fremaux, the Cannes festival director decreed that there would be no selfies on the Cannes red carpet this year, which sent ripples of alarm through social media. It needn't have worried, the no-selfie rule has been blithely ignored by several celebrities who've managed to sneak at least one in before navigating the camera-filled stretch to the Palais de Festivals.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Desperate Housewives alumnus Eva Longoria took this one together as a testament to their friendship. They were attending the screening of actress Cate Blanchett's film Carol on May 17.
"Wouldn't be my 10 year anniversary without Aishwarya," Eva wrote in a separate tweet. Both women are veterans of Cannes - Eva is celebrating a decade on the French Riviera and Aishwarya is making her 14th appearance.
L'Oreal, the cosmetics giant that both actresses represent at Cannes, outed the normally stately Aishwarya as one of a small clutch of celebs who insist on ruining other people's photos. She has Jennifer Lawrence and Benedict Cumberbatch for company.
"You never look as ugly as you do in a selfie," Thierry Fremaux complained ahead of the festival. Those populating his red carpet don't appear to agree.
Amitabh Bachchan: Don't seek blessings from celebrities
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan disapproves of fans who try to seek blessings from any celebrity or ask them to name their children. The 72-year-old, who greets his fans outside his house every Sunday, said that over the years, he has discovered many unique "modus operandi" of meeting him.
"Many seek blessings from celebrities, names for their children and on:This is disapproved. I am not worthy of blessings nor intelligent enough to give a name. Please do not put me through that ordeal! It would be horrible for a child to live through his entire life saddled with a name that was not his parents' calling," Big B wrote on his blog.
Sharing one incident of meeting a young fan, the Don actor feels that people often use their children to get his autograph. "A little fellow once came to me on a crowded occasion, and asked for my autograph, looking completely puzzled and hassled. He was having problems pronouncing 'autograph'... photograph, auto car, and some other contortions were with effort struggling to form out of his chubby face," Big B said.
"He was precocious and honest. When I asked him his name, he promptly told me that. When I asked him what my name was he said, 'I don't know your name. My Father asked me to come to you, so I have come'!!. hahahaha.. cute," added the megastar.

DID YOU KNOW:
Emraan Hashmi wears many rings and believes them to be his good luck charm.
When asked if he is superstitious by nature, he said, "I'm kind of superstitious. It's not like I don't take any decision without consulting an astrologer. Perhaps it's coincidental that I got a string of hits after wearing these rings. Now I'm not taking any chances. But nothing can replace hard work and perseverance."
