Elia announces desire to stay with Saints

Eljero Elia has revealed he has aspirations to stay at Southampton on a permanent basis following his six-month loan spell at St Mary’s.
Elia hit the ground running by impressing in Southampton’s 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford before netting a brace against Newcastle in his side’s consecutive Barclays Premier League fixture.
The 28-year-old Dutchman, on loan from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen, has failed to hit the back of the net ever since his two-goal heroics at St James’ Park but remains hopeful of staying at Southampton.
Elia, speaking to the Southampton Echo, said of his desire to stay in England: “I want to stay 100 per cent, so it is to the club what they decide. Otherwise, I have one contracted year with Werder Bremen. I will not stay at Werder Bremen, but I will go to another club then if they don’t want me. I don’t know (what my future holds). They (Southampton) say nothing about it. I speak with the coach (Koeman) about it, who was positive.”
Elia will be hoping he can convince Ronald Koeman that he deserves to stay at the south coast outfit in Southampton’s final two games of the season against Aston Villa and Manchester City.
