In my weekly blog that I released earlier in the week I spent my time congratulating Chelsea Football Club for winning the league.
I won’t repeat myself but in a nutshell I highlighted each teams goals at the start of the season and concluded that Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Manuel Pellegrini, Louis Van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers were tasked by their boards to win the league.
Only one manager achieved that; and for that reason he deserves to be feted! So Congrats Special One; but enjoy it while it lasts!
Next season things won’t be so easy because other clubs will be ready. LVG isn’t a joker and we have seen patches of his brilliance this season.
He will do his homework well during the season break and Man United will be bigger and better next season. Manuel Pellegrini too has seen that life isn’t easy if you don’t have all your ducks in a row.
Something has been missing in the City squad this season; morale is one of those things and a defence that is aging is probably the other.
If the hierarchy at City hold onto Pellegrini, I’m sure he can fix his mistakes of this season. It’s a dream that Arsene Wenger will strengthen during the transfer window because up until now, all he is focusing on, is bringing Yaya Sanogo back to Emirates.
And since we know Wenger the way we do, that could be his biggest “signing” of the summer window.
He has already spoken of bringing back some of the players on loan like Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and of course Sanogo; but will such a line-up compete with a strengthened Chelsea, Man United and Man City; and maybe even Liverpool.
The Reds just need one big Suarez-like signing and they’re back in contention for silverware. I’m a little afraid about next season but I’ll give Wenger the benefit of a doubt. Right now, as un-motivating as it sounds; we are still targeting to finish second. It is all in our hands given that we are equal on points with Man City in second and we have a game in hand.
So if we play our cards right, including a win over Man United, then that second spot is ours. I don’t care how many Kieni Githinjis say that no-one remembers who finishes second, it is still our goal.
For once let it be Man United who start their European season early with qualifiers against teams that would lose to KPL champions Gor Mahia.
Let United fans lose sleep early in the season as their squad makes it’s way to some obscure East European city to attempt to qualify to play European football with the big boys.
Let’s still focus on this season, finishing second and winning the FA Cup; because that is what is written in the stars for Arsenal this season.
