Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu and four former MPs on Tuesday visited ailing former Cabinet Minister Ngala Mwendwa.
They visited Ngala at his Ithookwe home in Kitui Central.
Ngala, 97, was not only the pioneer MP for Kitui Central but was in the first post-independence cabinet of President Jomo Kenyatta.
He served as the Labour minister.
“I initiated this visit so that we can visit our ailing leader in recognition to his contribution in the development of Kitui. It has brought together those who served as Kitui Central MP after him,” Makali said.
Visitors also included suspended Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu, Kitui speaker George Ndotto and former Cabinet Minister Titus Mbathi.
They were led in prayers by Bishop David Kalua.
They also prayed for Ngilu’s court case to collapse so she can reenter the Cabinet.
Ngilu is charged with obstruction of justice in the Karen land probe.
They said the case against her is “a frame up and meant to get her out of the way so that some people could benefit from fishy deals at the Lands ministry”.
Ngilu said it is important to recognise Ngala who served as Kitui Central MP between 1963 and 1974 and left behind a constituency that has grown.
“He helped all of us, who were elected after him, in one way or another,” she said.
Ngilu said the visit had opened an opportunity for leaders to meet and reflect on the things they have done for the people.
She said they had decided to work together to help the people of Kitui Central.
The leaders also prayed for the unity of Ukambani leaders.
