THE Commission for Implementation of the Constitution and the Attorney General were yesterday accused of not implementing the two-thirds gender rule as directed by the Supreme Court three years ago.
The Centre for Rights of Education and Awareness said the two offices have declined to prepare relevant bills on gender rule for tabling in Parliament, violating the constitution.
In a suit at the High Court in Nairobi, CREAW wants Justice Mumbi Ngugi to declare that CIC chairman Charles Nyachae and AG Githu Muigai have disobeyed the superior court’s directive of 2012 and should be compelled to table the relevant bills.
The deadline for implementing the rule is August 27.
CIC lawyer Kethi Kilonzo said there are two bills before Parliament, which has the mandate to speed up the enactment of the gender rule in the required timelines.
The ruling was set for June 26.
