CONTROVERSIAL businesswoman Joyce Akinyi was remanded yesterday as she awaits being charged with drug trafficking.
Akinyi appeared in a Kibera court after she was allegedly found with drugs. The police are, however, yet to complete investigations.
The prosecution asked the court to remand her for three working days so that they can conclude their investigations.
The prosecution said they had taken the drugs to the government chemist for analysis.
Police told the court the alleged drugs have not been weighed yet and the sampling has also not been done.
Akinyi appeared before principal magistrate Benard Ochoi.
She was arrested by anti-narcotics police at Deep West Restaurant in Nairobi on Wednesday night.
Akinyi was once married to Nigerian businessman Anthony Chinedu, who was a suspected drug dealer and was deported following the President's directive.
Ochoi ordered she be remanded at Muthaiga police station for three days to enable police conclude investigations.
The matter will be mentioned on Monday for further directions.
This is not the first time that Akinyi is facing drug trafficking charges.
Last year, she was arrested at the Namanga border in the company of former Budalang'i MP Raphael Wanjala with suspected drugs, which was later said to have been maize flour.
In the same court, two men and a woman were charged with having drugs.
John Otieno, Risper Auma and Kelvin Oduor were arrested at a house in Dam estate allegedly with a narcotic substance.
The substance has been taken to the government chemist for analysis.
The magistrate directed that they be remanded at Muthaiga police station and brought back to court on Monday.
