First Lady Margaret Kenyatta is in New York, USA for the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
The session taking place at the UN headquarters until March 20 will focus on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
It will highlight challenges affecting its implementation following its adoption at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995.
Women empowerment and the achievements of gender equality will also be discussed.
The Beijing+20 review will also include the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly.
This was the first five-year assessment conducted after the adoption of the Platform for Action, which highlighted further actions and initiatives.
The session will further address opportunities for achieving gender equality and women empowerment in the post-2015 development agenda.
Margaret was received by Devolution CS Anne Waiguru, Kenya's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Macharia Kamau, and Ambassador to the USA Njeru Githae.
Representative from member states, UN entities, Economic and Social Council and accredited NGOs worldwide are attending the session.
