Sunidhi Chauhan rocked Nairobi

Since the last successful Mani Productions concert, public anticipation for the Sunidhi event was running wild. This time the venue was the well-chosen Aga Khan Pavillion and Complex in Nairobi.

The well-trained Securex security team, in conjunction with AKCC volunteers, boosted by the men in black from Parklands, kept parking and entrance formalities painless and efficient.

With the location logistics beautifully arranged by Dilshad Kanji, logistics manager at the Aga Khan Community Centre the audience was in for a treat. Uniquely and thoughtfully, Mani had involved the enthusiastic AKCC community volunteer catering team of 35 in preparing a fabulous dinner enjoyed by all.

Well fed and seated the audience was ready and the mood was set.

Rakesh Maini an Indian Idol success story kicked off the event with a warm up set, starting with Nahi jeena and lat lagayi.

Then the svelte Sunidhi Chauhan took over, rocking the stage from the get go with Dhoom machale to grand applause. “Who wants to dance? she asked, before she performed Tera ishq sufiana, which was received with squeals of delight. But she made them wait, teasing with the beautifully romantic Bin tere.

Stepping it up a notch, the rock star sang Sajna Teri ho gayi yaar...and the party was on. With Ainvayi ainvayi and Mahiya out came the dancers in the crowd. A master performer, Sunidhi soon had all the ladies surrounded the stage and danced with delight, including the Indian High Commissioner’s wife Alka Verma when she sang Desi Girl.

The second half was a concert goer’s dream, popular favorites interspersed with choice ballads powerfully sung. Kamli got a deserved response, as did The Disco Song from Student of The Year. More dancing! Sajna Vari Vari, Bumrho, the incredibly performed Sheila ki jawani, Beedi jalayi leh amazed the guests.

Sunidhi was brilliant, and her band equally as talented. The evening was a resounding success by any measure, and Mani Productions have clearly done it again. Total value for money. Their 2015 programme line-up is eagerly awaited. My recommendation? Come!

Khan cup runneth over

After Salman Khan and Shar Rukh Khan hugged and made up at Salman’s sister Arpita’s wedding, we suddenly got a bit nostalgic and greedy. We wanted to see the three Khans together again. The third Khan is no other and than Aamir Khan. It seems like Christmas has come early because the three Khans are going to share the screen very soon.

You can be forgiven for getting as excited as I did over this piece of news but it is not for a movie. They’ll appear in Rajat Sharma’s popular show Aapki Adalat to celebrate it’s 21st anniversary. There will be other celebrities on board too but this piece of news certainly caught my eye. I can’t wait to watch this particular episode. Body language always gives so much away but these three are professional actors!

Spa date gone wrong

My idea of a spa date is not being at work, phone switched off, soft music, dimmed lights, warm and fragnant oil and a masseuse who knows how to work their magic on your knotted muscles. It seems like landlord Priyanka Chopra got more than she bargained for as Charisma Beauty Spa outlet was allegedly involved in the flesh trade. Manik Soni is the spa owner in Versova and Priyanka has sent a legal notice.

The raid came after the police received a tip off saying that the spa was being used as a front to run a sex racket. Following the tip the police deployed a decoy to verify the charges. This resulted in a raid where three adult females were rescued and the manager Dinesh Chandrakant was arrested.

Though shaken, Priyanka Chopra has been unavailable for comment, however her mother who also runs a clinic on the same floor stated that they have sent a legal notice to Soni as well as cancelling the lease for the spa.
